Cryolipolysis is a process that applies controlled cooling to selectively target and freeze fat cells beneath the skin.
Because fat cells are more sensitive to cold temperatures than other cells in the body, they crystallize and undergo apoptosis (cell death) at 4 degrees Celsius.
This occurs without damaging the skin or any surrounding structures.
In the coming weeks and months, the destroyed fat cells are gradually cleared away via the lymphatic system and produce permanent fat reduction.
What’s the Connection Between Cryolipolysis and CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a noninvasive body contouring treatment that harnesses the effects of cryolipolysis in order to eliminate localized fat pockets from the body.
Using cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting is able to slim and sculpt virtually any trouble spot, including the abdomen, flanks, thighs, hips, back, bra line, banana roll, upper arms, under the chin, and under the jawline.
How is CoolSculpting Performed?

During a CoolSculpting treatment, an applicator vacuums pinchable fat between two cooling panels and delivers controlled cooling. This selectively freezes fat cells and causes them to die.
Patients may feel a slight tugging or pulling sensation as the applicator collects the fatty tissue. They are also likely to experience the device’s cooling effects at the very beginning of treatment.
