Does SculpSure Even Work?

CoolSculpting and SculpSure are two of the most popular FDA-approved noninvasive fat removal treatments. While CoolSculpting freezes pesky fat pockets, SculpSure heats localized fat deposits.

And the differences don’t end there.

CoolSculpting’s ability to eliminate up to 25 percent of unwanted fat is clinically-proven and backed by extensive data.

Comparatively, there’s much less data on SculpSure, and this distinction has some patients wondering: Does SculpSure even work?

Continue reading to find out the answer to this question, including how SculpSure stacks up against CoolSculpting.

What Is SculpSure?

SculpSure is a non-invasive fat removal technology that uses laser energy to destroy unwanted fat cells. It was FDA-approved in 2012 and is currently cleared to treat the abdomen, flanks, thighs, back, and double chin.

How Does SculpSure Target Unwanted Fat?

During a SculpSure treatment, four applicators with attached hoses are secured to the targeted area. They selectively heat adipose tissue up to 107 degrees and causes irreversible damage and destruction to fat cells.

In the coming weeks, the destroyed fat cells are expelled from the body through natural detoxification processes.

Does SculpSure Even Work?

While CoolSculpting boasts seven million treatments worldwide and has come to be known as the No. 1 non-invasive body contouring treatment globally, the jury is still out on SculpSure. In fact, there are some people who want to know: Does SculpSure even work?

Although Cynosure, the company that manufactures SculpSure, claims that the treatment can eliminate up to 24 percent of fat cells, a recent review published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology found SculpSure reduced fat by 11 percent.

On the other hand, CoolSculpting is the most studied non-invasive body contouring treatment and, by many accounts, more effective. According to a clinical trial published in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology in 2014, CoolSculpting showed up to a 25 percent reduction in subcutaneous fat.

What’s more, SculpSure’s applicators tend to be better-suited to flat, thin areas of unwanted fat. This is in contrast to CoolSculpting’s curved applicators that vacuum fatty tissue to effectively treat small to large fat rolls and bulges.
