The short answer
Does CoolSculpting® work on belly fat?
Yes, when the fullness you’re seeing is the right kind of fat: stubborn, pinchable fat just under the skin. On the stomach, that can be the upper belly, the lower belly or both. How CoolSculpting® works →
Pinchable fat under the skin (subcutaneous fat) on the upper or lower abdomen.
Weight loss, visceral fat deep inside the abdomen, or loose skin.
People at or near their goal weight with a belly pocket that diet and exercise won’t touch.
First changes in a few weeks, with most of the change from a session by around 2 to 3 months. Individual results vary.

Fat reduction isn’t weight loss
The scale can change without your shape changing where you want it to
Diet, exercise and weight loss change your body overall, but they can’t choose where the fat comes off. CoolSculpting® targets a specific pocket of stubborn fat, so the change shows up in your shape, not on the scale.
It’s not always just fat
What’s really shaping your stomach?
Having belly fat doesn’t automatically mean CoolSculpting® is the right treatment. Here’s what we look at first.
Stubborn, pinchable fat
Fat just under the skin that stays put after diet, exercise or weight loss. If you can pinch it, CoolSculpting® may help.
Muscle tone
Changes in core muscle tone can affect your shape, even when fat isn’t the only concern. CoolTone® strengthens and tones the abdominal muscles.
Loose skin or deeper fat
Lax skin and visceral fat, which sits deep inside the abdomen, aren’t treated with CoolSculpting®. If something else makes more sense, we’ll tell you.
Why who matters
We don’t just treat the spot you point to
Your upper belly, lower belly, waist and love handles all shape your midsection together. Here’s how Jennifer and Paige plan a stomach treatment around your body.

Look from more than one angle
We look at your stomach from more than one angle and how each area flows into the next, not just the spot that bothers you.
Choose and place the applicators
There are many CoolSculpting® applicators. Picking the right ones and placing them well is what makes results look smooth and natural instead of uneven.
Plan the order and timing
Great results usually come from treating areas in the right order and spacing sessions well. For some people that’s the stomach alone, and for others it includes the flanks (love handles).

Most people read, work or relax during treatment. Bring a book, your laptop or a show.
Back to your day
Then you go right back to your day. Most people have no downtime.

The questions everyone asks
Stomach CoolSculpting®, answered
Does CoolSculpting work on belly fat?
Yes, on stubborn, pinchable fat just under the skin. It doesn’t treat visceral fat deep inside the abdomen, and it isn’t a weight loss treatment. Individual results vary.
Can CoolSculpting get rid of a lower belly pooch?
If the pooch is pinchable fat, CoolSculpting® can reduce it. If it’s mostly loose skin or muscle tone, a different approach may work better. We’ll look at what’s causing it at your free consultation.
How much does stomach CoolSculpting cost in Arlington?
CoolSculpting® starts at $2,999 per area, all-inclusive, so your final price depends on how many areas you treat and how dramatic a change you’re looking for. You’ll get full pricing at your complimentary consultation, and flexible monthly payment plans are available. See payment options. A full stomach can include the lower, mid and upper abdomen, so we map your areas at your consultation. See full pricing details.
How many sessions does the stomach need?
It depends on how much pinchable fat you have and your goals. Most patients see subtle changes after one session, but most do a series of 2 to 4 sessions to reach their ideal results. We map this out up front, so there are no surprises.
Can I do CoolSculpting after having a baby?
Many people come to us when they’re done having kids and their weight is stable. CoolSculpting® isn’t for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, so wait until you’re finished with both.
Can I treat my stomach and love handles together?
Yes. For some people, treating the belly and flanks together creates a smoother, more balanced result. We’ll recommend only what fits your goals. See our CoolSculpting for love handles page for more.
Are stomach results permanent?
Fat cells that are eliminated don’t come back. Remaining fat cells can still grow with weight gain, so keeping a stable weight helps you keep your results.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or have any medical conditions including recent surgery, pre-existing hernia, and any known sensitivities or allergies.
During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, cramping and discomfort at the treatment site. These sensations lessen as the area becomes numb. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, stinging, tenderness, cramping, skin inflammation and aching. Sensory alteration (itching, skin sensitivity, tingling, and numbness) can persist up to several weeks after treatment. You may also experience throat discomfort/soreness and sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental or submandibular area treatment.
Rare side effects may happen in 1 to 10 out of 10,000 CoolSculpting® and CoolSculpting® Elite treatments (between 0.01% to 0.1%). One such rare side effect is a visible enlargement in the treated area, which may develop 2 to 5 months after treatment, will not resolve on its own, and may require surgical intervention for correction.
